Our overnight accommodation in Katherine was kindly supplied by Noel who is a member of the Katherine Vintage Car Club.
Most members of our group drove out to Katherine Gorge this morning and all said they would like to return one day when time permits. Canoes and a tourist boat were already on the water enjoying the early morning conditions.
Travelled through quite severe fire conditions not far from Darwin - quite scary as strong winds were fanning high flames along the roadsides. Visibility was reduced to 3 metres in places.
Arrived in Darwin mid afternoon where our group was joined by George and Anne Bass, Cumber, Julie and Maddy, and their two support teams, Wernie (their chef), Annette and Graeme and Di Turnock, along with Bassy's and Cumber's tractors.
All the team made the short trip to the Greyhound Track for a Rock and Rod Show and the three tractors were much admired. Several beautifully restored vintage cars were also on display. A few relaxing drinks and jokes were shared in the cool airconditioned surroundings, which was much enjoyed after the heat of the day. Another opportunity to sell some merchandise and collect some donations. A few gentleman took a couple of members to their club workshop where those members will be able to change a seal in the tractor in the morning.
