Dick's 'taxi' collected the truants from their overnight accommodation and found them to be in good spirits after a very enjoyable sojourn.
A good day's drive starting off early at usual with tractor going well. First stop at Ilfracombe where we spent some time looking at the many types of old tractors and farm machinery. This is a wonderful display right down the main street in a very tidy town.
At Barcaldine we spent time at the spot where the Tree of Knowledge once stood. This is the town where the Australian Labor Party began during the great shearers' strike in 1891. Because the tree has died, it has been sent to Brisbane for preservation and will be kept in a large see-through enclosure when it is returned to Balcaldine. A brief visit to the Australian Workers Union Heritage Centre for a photoshoot with Kim and his TWU Flag.
Just out of Barcaldine, we came across a train derailment as a result of an accident with a truck. Many heavy duty cranes etc were required to remove the wreckage from the closed line and made for some interesting photos. Fortunately, no-one was seriously hurt in the incident.
Arrived at Emerald mid afternoon and received wonderful support from locals and visitors. Thank you all so much for your fantastic support. A couple from the Relay for Life program purchased a set of our merchandise to auction off at a later date for their cause which is also breast cancer. Doug Slack, a local from Emerald, presented us with six pin trays made from melted down old pistons and dipped in gold paint, and also a selection of local gems for us to use for fundraising at a later date.
