Last night we were welcomed by Dick and Barbara's friends, Albert and Glenys Brimblecombe at their beautiful property at Toowoomba. Albert and Glenys had invited friends and members of the local machinery restoration group to meet us, They had organised a delicious BBQ and it was great fun to meet new people and admire Albert's private collection of all types of machinery and tractors. Dick and Barbara met Albert and Glenys in Toowoomba four years ago where they attended a machinery Swap-meet
On to St Mary's Catholic School at Goondiwindi where we had the 9G on show and Ron gave a talk to the students and teachers. The students asked some interesting questions and at the end, the school captains thanked Ron for his interesting talk. We visited the school at the express request of Terri-anne Thompson, who said her four sons would be absolutely thrilled to see the tractor and that her parents would be driving into town to see it as well. Her two younger sons James and Charlie had a lovely time in the tractor before the school children came to the oval.
An elderly gentleman who has lived in the Goondiwindi area most of his life made comment that the last 3 or 4 years have been the worst in his memory and that little grain was planted this year, and what was sown suffered from not receiving follow up rains. This observation was borne out by the many tressed trees along the verges and the poor crops.
After fuelling up in Goondiwindi we enjoyed a beautiful drive through the Darling Downs countryside with an ever changing patchwork of farmlands. We have received a lot of interest from farmers and truckies, some of whom have passed us more than once on our travels.
We arrived in Warialda late afternoon and camped at a lovely Shire Caravan Park where locals immediately came to purchase merchandise, have a chat and see the tractor. Once again, Ron was interviewed by the local press and we thank all the media for their kind interest in our travels and fund-raising.
