Our Travels - Day 36 Kurri Kurri to Lithgow:  September 23rd, 2007

This morning, while the crew was fuelling up, Carolyn was requested to take photos of the wonderful murals around the town.  The first mural to be completed was the Kookaburra mural which helped the town win a Tidy Towns Competition in 1993.  With Kurri Kurri approximately 100 mtrs above sea level, there are beautiful views of the ranges surrounding the town.

Fortunately, Peter Meddows offered to lead us out of Kurri Kurri on a shorter route.  We enjoyed a beautiful scenic drive through the Hunter Valley with old and new vineyards.  This area is where many well known brands of wine originate.

The drive along the Putty Road was steep and winding and provided attractive vistas at every turn.  The tractor drivers relished this opportunity to hone their driving skills on some of the steepest roads to be found anywhere in Australia.  The views to the Blue Mountains in the distance were magnificent with distant escarpments and heavily wooded hills, many of which however have been denuded by recent bush fires.

We enjoyed an early camp at Lithgow and were joined by Bruce and Joan Heinrich from Lucknow, near Orange, who have travelled here to catch up with us and hear about our journey.  We have appreciated the continuing interest and participation of 9G Club Members along our travels.
