After an enjoyable evening at the lovely Highway 1 caravan park at Bolivar - we had an early start with the day turning out gloriously.
Cr. Scott Kelly and local lady Libby were at Pope's Cafe, Pt. Wakefield, to meet and chat with the TEC team. Libby is a great worker in fundraising for Breast Cancer Research. Both Scott and Libby were keenly interested in what we were doing.
Thank you so much to Pope's Cafe who supplied morning tea which was much appreciated by our team members.
Next stop Westland Shopping Centre, Whyalla, where 'Tail End Charlie' was prominent for everyone to see, and many interested people came for a chat and made generous donations.
Whyalla is the first town in Australia that started processing iron ore during World War 2.
Many thanks to primary school children from Port Wakefield who came especially to see 'Tail End Charlie' but unfortunately the tractor had departed, so the children were given a guided tour of Kerry and Ron Bywater's bus instead - and were suitably impressed!!
The children enquired about the kangaroo on our logo, why it was wearing boxing gloves - they were told by Ron it had cold hands therefore wearing the gloves. In reality, during the Rally 50 years ago - a large, determined 'roo did in fact appear in front of TEC and wouldn't budge for quite a while!!
Sincere thanks to all who have generously supported this event in any way so far it is very much appreciated.
We arrived earlier than expected at Cowell so were able to enjoy some relaxation and lovely sunshine.
